Leominster itself dates from the 7th century and lies in the heart of the Marches .The Priory and Church formed the centre from which the town grew and today Leominster has retained much of its Medieval and Tudor style; narrow streets with picturesque half timbered houses, some with overhanging first storeys. Other parts of the town boast the wide streets and gracious buildings of the Georgian period.

Nearby, (that is within a twenty mile radius of Ryelands), there are numerous heritage buildings. These include the castles of Ludlow, Stokesay, Croft and Eastnor and the National Trust properties of Berrington Hall and the Brockhampton Estate.
There are also numerous delightful and unusual Gardens in the area for you to explore. Some even have grand houses such as Hampton Court and Burford. There is of course the Cathedral at Hereford with its famous Mappa Mundi and The Black and White Village Trail which starts in Leominster.

Further Afield: Ryelands is an ideal base for touring this beautiful part of England and Wales. Within an hour’s drive are The Brecon Beacons, Hay on Wye, Ross on Wye, Symond’s Yat, The Forest of Dean, Worcester, Ledbury, and Shrewsbury with the spa town of Cheltenham just over an hour away.

  Activities

Within a short distance of Rylelands numerous sporting activities are catered for, including four golf courses, one of which is the highest in England at Kington, horse racing at Ludlow, Hereford and Worcester, horse riding schools, fishing, cycle hire and of course plenty of walking in the glorious Herefordshire countryside. Walking can be organised for you by a local firm and you can travel accompanied or under your own steam. The well known Mortimer Trail is nearby. For the more adventurous there are flying lessons, microlight training, outdoor karting, paint balling and probably others we haven’t yet discovered!
